The Foundational Framework

What is the Foundational Framework? It is the set of social safety nets that need to be in place to catch people when they fall and become a springboard to help them jump back into motion. It is the declaration that we, as a modern society are going to help each other thrive. We are making the choice to spend our money to make the lives of everyone better, and in so doing lessen the financial burdens placed upon the average person in our country because we are sharing the costs. That is what a modern society does.

Why do we need the Foundational Framework? Our current version of society sees far too many people slipping through the cracks, not being able to take care of themselves, let alone others. The gap between poor and comfortable has been allowed to become a giant chasm in the United States, and it needs to be closed. If we can help people get back on their feet faster and with more sure footing than before, then they can help lessen each person’s load.

How will the Foundational Framework do this? By starting the questions at the bottom. Working from the ground up to protect our most vulnerable populations will mean that every group will be able to thrive. The idea of interlocking communities means that we are all in this together, no longer divided by the color of our skin, our sexual identity, religion, sexual orientation, class or anything else. We are one population, and ensuring the success of each of each ensures the success of all of us.

This is not going to be a fast process, there is just so much that needs to be addressed, but it can be done successfully if it is done with intention, understanding how each piece fits into place with the others. I will do my best to explain things along the way. We need not fear the future, for it is ours to shape, what matters is how we choose to do so.
